NORTHEY FOUNDATION DRUG TAKE-BACK EVENT: TO BE RESCHEDULED

The Drug Take-Back Event is held annually on the second Saturday in April. The Northey Foundation partners with the Arvada Police Department to offer metro area residents a safe way to dispose of medications. Simply gather up unused, unwanted and expired medications and bring them to the Arvada Police Headquarters parking lot, where you can drive up, handoff and drive away!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: TO BE RESCHEDULED - DATES TO BE DETERMINED

LOCATION: ARVADA POLICE DEPARTMENT: 8101 RALSTON ROAD

When over-the-counter or prescription medications are expired or no longer needed, they should be removed from the home. They pose a risk if obtained by young children and can potentially be dangerous if used.  Many people believe that the best way to dispose of unused or expired medications is to flush them down the toilet. However, this pollutes our waterways and adversely affects wildlife and plant life along our streams and rivers.

Permitted Items:

  • Prescription Medications

  • Over-the-Counter Medications

  • Medication Samples

  • Pet Medications

  • Vitamins

  • Liquid Medication in Glass or Leak-proof Containers

  • Medicated Ointments and Lotions

  • Inhalers

  • Bloody or Infectious Waster

  • Hydrogen Peroxide

  • Aerosol Cans

  • Thermometers

  • IV Bags

  • Illicit Drugs

  • Chemotherapy and other Radioactive Substances

  • Oxygen Containers

  • Needles or other Sharps

  • Medical Equipment

This is a free event; however, donations are accepted and will benefit the Northey Foundation which provides scholarships to graduating Arvada high school students, and helps families of officers killed or injured in the line of duty. The generous underwriting of Arvada Vitality Alliance, State Farm Agent Doris Stipech, Custom Environmental Services, and Sooper Credit Union results in all donations directly benefiting the Northey Foundation.

In 2019, the Northey Foundation gave $18,000 in scholarships to (11) Arvada students!

W. Michael Northey was a police officer for the City of Arvada who was tragically killed after being struck by a car while making an arrest on August 11, 1979. Northey was very active with the youth of the community and therefore the Northey Foundation was created in his honor. The W. Michael Northey Foundation is a 501(C)(3)(IRS#31-1771579) not for profit organization.
