HONORING THE MEMORY OF YESTERDAY BY INVESTING IN THE DREAMS OF TOMORROW
Arvada Police Officer Michael Northey was killed in the line of duty on August 11, 1979. In his honor, the W. Michael Northey Foundation exists to serve officers and their families in times of need, and to help graduating seniors in Arvada start the road to further education.
In the past twelve years, the Foundation awarded nearly $160,000 in scholarships to deserving students and assisted the families of nearly a dozen officers. We continue giving back to the community that Officer Northey proudly served.
How We Do It
The W. Michael Northey Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization (IRS#31-1771579).
With generous help from the Arvada Police Explorer's Post and the Arvada Police Academy Alumni funds are raised in myriad ways:
Drug Take Back: Held annually on the second Saturday in April, the Northey Foundation partners with Arvada law enforcement to collect your unwanted prescription and non-prescription drugs and dispose of them properly. All financial donations go directly to the foundation thanks to generous underwriters. Learn more here
Shred-A-Thon: This event is held annually on the second Saturday in October. With the generous support of Shred-it, the Northey Foundation invites residents to protect their identity and personal information by offering a safe way to destroy their confidential documents. 100 percent of donations go directly to the Foundation. ABOUT ARVADA POLICE EXPLORER'S POST
The Explorer's Post is composed of young men and women who come together every second and fourth Thursday night to get a hands-on look at policing. As an Explorer, you will learn about high-risk traffic stops, investigating traffic accidents, marksmanship skills, and even participate in ride-a-longs with members of the Arvada Police Department. In addition to the numerous training opportunities offered, the Explorer Scouts make a valuable contribution to the Arvada Police Department and the City of Arvada through their volunteer work.

ABOUT ARVADA CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY ALUMNI
The Citizen Police Academy Alumni bring together graduates of the Arvada Citizen Police Academy to promote awareness of law enforcement and community issues. In addition, the (70) members are actively involved in a variety of activities including: Child Identification, Drug Take Back, Shred-A-Thon, and the Colorado Police Canine Association.
